Wedding Trends For 2010

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

With the New Year comes the new wedding trends for 2010. Whether you want to follow tradition or be a trendsetter – 2010 has amazing  options for all of the different styles of  brides. I have composed a list of what I think will be the hottest trends for 2010.  I predict 2010 wedding trends for the Bride is going to be about  colors !  Bold,  Deep and Rich Vibrant Reds, Bold Blues, and Dark Plumes. I can see some softer pastel color such as Yellows, Oranges, and Pinks for the summer months but for the most part I see colors that will stand out.  I think the Vintage Style is going to make a huge, huge… come back this season.  I think that the off the shoulder dresses  are going to be left in the last decade.   I predict that  you will see more daring Brides wearing  Black dresses embellished with lace and pearls, or White dresses  for a more dramatic statement by using black piping or embroidery.  I can also envision Red wedding dresses as the gown to capture the spot light.  With large satin bows or embroidery pearls and sequins.  There will be three  different types of  trends in this season.  For the Bride that is sophisticated you can expect to see a glamourours look like Greta Garbo style.  Which is marked with “sophisticated charm, sensuality and splendour, particularly in the field of the show and fashion”. You can expect to see lots of Lace with pearls and sequin detail and  designs that will richly adorn the dress. Mink or Fur stoles with Brooches to be the  accenting pieces.  I also see  two types of hair pieces. I think that Slouch Bridal Hats with feathers are going to be a big part of the trends or Feather Fascinators with Crystals and freshwater pearls. I see the hair styles are going to the trend of long flowing curls with the hair softly wispering along the frame of the face.  As for the look of the bride I envision a porcelain look with bold lip colors.  Remember that  the stylish is not especially made from charm:  It is more in the  way to look impeccable and classical.  For the Modern Bride I see  the  look for chic body-hugging gowns, White or Ivory hues with large bows or over-sized gemstones, glistening sequins and large pearls. with the hair pulled up in a classical style. The headpiece in the form of a crystal or beaded hair piece with a shoulder length veil.  A sheath or short cocktail dress would not be out of the question. For the Bride that is a Fashinova I predict Bling, Unusual centerpieces such as Ostrich Feathers with hanging crystals. or Diamond center pieces with votive candles surounding at the base. and out of this world design with bling everywhere. I imagine a Mermaid style dress trumpet flare at the bottom covered with ostrich, peacock or any natural feather. The accenting pieces will be adorned with crystals and beading with side head combs adorned with crystals or feathers.  The primary colors to be in the rich dark color palette. No matter what your style may be in the category of wedding trends  you can always find your own unique style.

Maid of Honor and Bridesmaids Wedding Traditions

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

I guess this is the time to vent about experiences today with wedding and bridesmaids! Being involved with recent wedding and now with coordinating one for in the family, there’s a few things in ediquette that now a days I don’t understand. Maybe it’s just laziness or even this generation of bridesmaids – at least from what we have encountered, they just want to be a part of the wedding to stand there and look pretty, then reap the rewards of having a free party celebration at the wedding reception. Beyond any of that, there’s no initiative from neither the maid of honor or any of the bridesmaids organizing or stepping up to make plans for any of the wedding. Not even the bridal shower!!! What is it with these girls today, there used to be long standing traditions from the girls, helping the bride plan her wedding. It was even traditional for the bridesmaids and maid of honor to plan and organize the bridal shower. From what we are seeing today, the bride is basically on her own with the exception of her parents guiding her through the planning process.  The Mom or someone close in her family is even doing all the planning and organizing of the bridal shower…….Hmmmmm, there’s something wrong with this picture. I think it is difficult enough for the bride focussing her attention on the details of her wedding, think about it, the bride deserve the best that she can get or have, this is something she has dreamt of since the age of 16 or younger, a fairytale wedding. She has many worries now that she is going to wed the man of her dreams so fo course every detail must be in perfection. So she has to worry about where she will be getting married and by whom, which part of the season she’ll get married in which now brings in the type of wedding or the theme that she has to plan. With that in mind, now comes the wedding decorations, color scheme, planning of the wedding reception, the food or caterer, the DJ, the invitations and all the other little things like wedding favors, table centerpieces, the wedding cake and shall I go on. There are a mulititude of planning and organizing that Must take place to have a successful wedding. After witnessing these events, now I can see why these brides (Some anyways) become what we call Bridezillas !! These soon to be bride are left on their own with planning and organizing their own event. Now I ask, it this fair to the bride, especially when these bridesmaid and the maid of honor are ask to be part or their special day. Heck, I have even withnessed when all the dresses, including the wedding dress came in, do you think that any of the wedding party went with the bride to pick their dresses up……There’s a BIG FAT NO. They were all told the dresses were in and asked them several times to go get them together. The bride herself ended up picking,  at that point she had to. The bridal shop where she purchased them from said they don’t warehouse dresses!!!!(David’s Bridal) That’s another story in itself!!!!!! So where has the true wedding tradition gone? It’s suppose to be one of the most happiest moments for the bride and it becomes a struggle know she is virtually on her own. For all of you bridesmaids and maid of honors out there, wake up!!! Let’s not forget why you are part of this ceremony and grand celebration, it is not about you and what you are going to get for free. You will be getting married at some point and think about it, you will need help, unless you are already married, then shame on you for entertaining the lack of participation.

It was obviouse that most of the brides were there just for the fashion show and I might say, there’s some very beautiful designs and creativity for 2009. We always enjoy participating as a vender in the bridal shows, it gives us a chance to not only meet and greet the lucky and beautiful brides, future brides, families and yes, some grooms, but also at the same time, meet some of the local wedding venders and their services.

As we were set up displaying some of the 2009 wedding collections and wedding accessories, we also had a wedding collection consisting of a wedding guest book and guest book pen, flower girl basket and a garter set to giveaway to a lucky couple. From hundreds of potential winners who took their time to drop their name in the wedding card box, we could only choose one lucky couple. The lucky bride and groom to be is from Plymouth Michigan by the name of Amanda and Abraham. They will be married this coming summer so our congratulations goes out to the both of them and All the Best of Luck.

2009 Wedding Accessories

Friday, January 16th, 2009

With wedding season upon us again, the brides are all out looking for the newest trends in fashion and wedding accessories for their trip down the alter. This year, we have seen some very elegant wedding accessories coming out from the manufactures.  There’s a couple  very nice and elegant collections we would like to share with everyone, with these equisite wedding pieces available, it just makes me want to get married this year (even though I am already married) There are two collections which really catch my eye and after you look at the picture, I think you would agree. Especially, with black being the color trend this year for accents and accessories. The first wedding collection is the Elizabeth, which is detailed with hand beading and metallic thread accented with a faux diamond in the center. The collection has the accessories for both the wedding ceremony and the wedding reception. Includes the flower girl basket, ring pillow and unity candle for the ceremony and the wedding guest book and pen set for the reception. The Elizabeth wedding collection does come in White, Ivory or Black but my preference is the elegant black.

Another collection that catches our attention is the Garbo wedding collection and accessories. With Claret one of the available colors, it definity grabs the attention of your audience and gives the look and feel pure elegance of a wedding. With satin exquisitley  and softly draped on each accessory and then finished with a romantic rhinestone piece, everyone will know there’s romance in the air for the bride and groom. This wedding collection also has the accessories for both the wedding ceremony and the reception.

Spring Weddings

Saturday, September 20th, 2008

With fall and winter soon approaching, there are many couples who are planning for their wedding for a spring time wedding event. Spring is a popular time of the year when many couples plan to recite their vows as for all good reasons. It’s a time for new, as everything begins to blossom and take on new life which the bride and groom are about do as well. If you enjoy the brisk days and the possibilities of seeing a few snowflakes to make for a winter wonder land, then early in the spring season would be ideal. In my opinion, later in the spring season would be an ideal time, the flowers are beginning to bloom, the trees and shrubs are all coming to life as to be reborn again.  Either your at the beginning stages of your planninng process or your now planning some of the small details such as your wedding and bridal accessories. If you follow the trends and style of todays wedding fashions, you will notice the colors trends for the 2009 weddings. Some of the colors for next wedding year is:

  • Golden Olive
  • Pink Mist
  • Cantalope
  • Snorkle Blue
  • Daiquiri Green

These are just a few colors that have been chosen as hot wedding colors for 2009. In 2007 and 2008  the color trends have been Soft Greens with White, Lilac with Purple tones, Chocolate Brown and blues.

Depending on where you live, an outdoor wedding is sometimes favorable by many couples. A few ideas for places to have your wedding maybe in a flower garden when the flowers are opening up showing the abundant rainbow of colors to shere on your special day, add in a gazebo, a few butterflies and your wedding will be spectacular and stunning.

Use flowers in season which are some the include roses which are among the favorite for many weddings, tulips come in a large variety of colors with red having the meaning of the perfect love, hyacinth and lilies are a favorite during the Easter season with the blue hyacinth expresses sincerity and Gerber daisies. Calla lilies are also very popular and look beautiful in a bouquet spring arrangement for the bride. If your having your wedding on a Easter weekend make your reception table centerpieces using white wicker baskets filled with an array of spring flowers.

If your presenting wedding favors for your guests one idea is present on the tables at each place setting flower seed packets such as the Butterfly Garden Gift Baskets or another butterfly favorite idea would be Butterfly floating tealights which can even be used as decoritive candles spread around the wedding tables and reception. Wildflower seeds maybe an alternative for your wedding favors as well or maybe the thought of cherry blossoms as favors or a theme

As I have mentioned butterflies, they are very popular for a spring or garden theme wedding. If your theme is based on butterflies, you can find wedding ceremony accessories reflecting the grace and beauty of the butterfly.

Another idea for your spring decor might be white doves. After a wedding ceremony, many couples plan to have white doves released into the air which symbolizes: Hope for Peace. You can also use a white dove cake topper as part of your wedding cake decor and theme.

What ever time of the year you chose to make the journey down the aisle of wedding bliss, may your wedding will be filled with Love, Joy and Hope!!

Second Choices for adding color to your Wedding Reception

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

An accent color to enhance the primary color choice.

Second color choices are Usually used in sashes for gowns, accent flowers, reception décor and napkins.

Your Grandmother or Mother would know this answer right away ! Oh No.. Say it is not so…. But yes the Traditional White! Ok now turn your frown upside down, it’s not  necessarily as traditional as before, I know your are jumping up and down for joy ! Right ? Today with white now used as an accent to punch up the primary color choices and add some break in the same color. A great place to add White is on your reception tables with white linen tablecloths, dramatic white sashes on bridesmaids’ gowns, white satin ribbons and bows to enhance bouquets, white lighting around the reception tables. The ideas go on and on. So be creative.

White is also followed closely by Black, Chocolate, Silver and Green (no, not just leaf green, but Sage and Clover and Hunter and Moss. Todays Bride knows what she wants and is not afraid to  implement thier own Style !

Another growing trend in the Orange Palettes,  Soft Peach Sherbets and Vibrant Tangerines! And keep your eye on yellows!  Many brides are bringing a little sunshine into their Wedding Day.

                                                    Best Regards

Weddings in Hawaii

Monday, January 21st, 2008

Have you ever thought about a wedding in Hawaii ? My wife and I did 5 years ago and it was exhilerating. It took a year to plan the wedding to make sure everything went as planned and smooth, sure there were a couple of minor set backs (explain later ) but all in all, it was everything we thought it would be, then some. Our wedding reception, we had like 1200 people there, actually it was a luau. They knew we were coming because the hotel concierge let them on the secret that we just got married that day. So we were like the host of the party, one big wedding reception.

If your think of having a Hawaiin wedding, here’s somethings to do and remember you need to do.

Who will perform you wedding and services. We chose Above Heavens Gate services in Oahu and I would recommend them to any one. We had a sunrise wedding which captured the tropical flowers and weater falls in brilliant colors. The services you choose will be able to give you all the details and set everything up you need for you hawaiin beach wedding, a garden wedding or even a nautical wedding. From getting your marriage liscense, tux rentals, flowers, wedding cake, make up, limo and location of the type of wedding you would have.

Once you have your wedding services booked and the date set, of course make your reservations with the airline for your Hawaii bound trip.

Get a copy of a marriage license form, fill it out and send it to the state of Hawaii

Have the groom, bestman and groomsmen measured for their tux and rent them there unless you want to carry them with you. Whe we went to pick ours up, the bestmans tux were to small so it was a mad scramble to get the right tux at the right size, and he is a pretty big man.

While you are at the hotel, they offer many site seeing tours, excursions and of course the luau’s, make sure you book the bride and grrom and their wedding party the night they’ve been married.

Keep in contact with the wedding service to make sure everything is on track. If the wedding service company is good, they will have everything arranged for you per your specifications and instructions.

Make sure you allow yourself extra time there before your wedding and after the wedding to enjoy what Hawaii has to offer. Soak up the warm tropical climate, the lush tropical flowers, the beaches, the surfing, the nightly attractions, pearl harbor of course and so much more. I would suggest a car rental to drive all over the island including going to the north shore. The drive is very scenic and there also also places to stop on the way to view the luscious tropical gardens. Hmmm, just thinking about it makes me want to go back!
